Process Of Pacemaker Insertion
The implantation of a pacemaker is a minor surgery that usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. We perform the procedure under local anesthesia and sedation to minimize the sensation of pain or discomfort. Our doctors will make a small incision near your collarbone and insert one or more wires (leads) through a vein into your heart. We use X-rays to guide the insertion of the wires.
The leads are connected to a small metal box (pulse generator). We will place it under the skin near the incision. Our doctors will test if the pacemaker is working correctly. At the end, we will close the incision with sutures.Â

After a successful pacemaker insertion, our team will monitor your heart functioning overnight. This is done to check if the device is working properly and to avoid any complications. You may have some pain, swelling, or bruising around the incision site, which can be relieved with medication.Â
Our specialist will also provide instructions on how to care for your wound, use your pacemaker monitor, and what activities to avoid or limit. We will schedule follow-up appointments to check your pacemaker function and adjust its settings if needed.
